Backyard House Finch – Our backyard has long attracted a limited variety of birds. However, the limited species does not mean we see few birds. We have had days in the late spring and early summer when we have seen 15 or more species of birds. The House Finch is a common visitor to our feeders and birdbath. It is fun to watch them throughout the breeding season. The males put on their finest and brightest feathers and sing from the treetops to attract females and warn other males that our yard is his. Although I am pretty sure that the “his” may change from day to day. This fellow had a pretty good itch he was trying to rid himself of.
