Black-chinned Hummingbird Feeding

Black-chinned Hummingbird Feeding on Texas Sage – Several years ago we transformed our yard into one that is more reflective of what can be seen naturally occurring in Central Texas. In doing so, we reduced our reliance on watering and fertilizing a lawn that is not natural to the area. Texas Red Sage or Salvia greggi is a Texas native plant and as such is quite drought resistant. As we learned during the late winter freeze of 2021 it is also very tolerant of freezes that last multiple days. This image was taken during the spring of 2020, before the big freeze as we like to call it. As I was looking out the morning before uploading this image I was amazed at how much our backyard looks like it did before the freeze.
