Blanketflower – (Gaillardia pulchella) Another of the wildflowers which appear in abundance in the spring around the Texas Hill Country. These flowers go by several other names. Indian Blanket is a very common name for this member of the Aster family. Firewheel, Rose-ring Gaillardia, and Showy Gaillardia are other common names for this gorgeous flower. The flower grows to a height of 1 to 2 feet and produces a blossom 1 5/8 to 2 1/8 inches in diameter. The required habitat is Sandy or somewhat clayey soils of prairies, fields, and woodland openings and in sand or shell along the coast.
