Galapagos Pintail or White-cheeked Pintail at Santa Cruz Highlands, Galapagos, Ecuador

Galapagos Pintail, also known as White-cheeked Pintail.

The Santa Cruz Highlands was a great place to see the Galapagos Giant Tortoises, but it was also a good place to see birds. This Galapagos Pintail was hanging around a small pond just below where we had been watching and following two Giant Tortoises. I sneaked away from the flurry of activity around the tortoises long enough to get a few photos of this bird.

The White-cheeked Pintail feeds on vegetable matter and invertebrates on the water’s surface and by dabbling. They may also dive into deeper freshwater lakes and ponds to evade predators.
