Great Gray Owl Lucky Shot 1

Great Gray Owl Lucky Shot 1 – Sometimes a person just gets lucky while trying to photograph birds. This was the first of three such shots of a Great Grey Owl at Bridge Bay Campground in Yellowstone Park. We were lucky to be in the area for this great sighting in the first place. We had returned to the park from a weekend trip to Cody. Knowing that this owl had been seen for several days in the area of the campground we decided to make a detour and see if we could get a look. It would be our first ever sighting of a Great Grey Owl. To our surprise, not only did we get a look, but the bird was frequently in the open making photography a real possibility. My first and foremost concern was that there were a lot of people in the area quite probably distracting the bird from its business. I didn’t want to be part of the problem, so I tended to stay back. While that was the proper thing to do, I was unable to influence others in the area. I am sure they got better photos, but I disapprove of pressuring any animal for the sake of a photograph.
