Great Gray Owl – This Great Grey Owl was perched just several yards off the road near Bridge Bay Campground in Yellowstone National Park. Even though it was late in September, the owl created quite a traffic jam. In Yellowstone, these kinds of traffic jams are referred to as “animal jams”. The bird seemed to be posing for the many visitors who were there snapping photographs. The late morning sun created significant shadowing across its body, but then, that is a typical sighting. I kept this photo and include it here as a reminder of just how difficult it is to get clear views of perched birds. There seems to always be shadows.
