Land Iguana on Santa Fe Island, The Galapagos

Galapagos Land Iguana

I was able to take several photographs of this Land Iguana as it moved through the bushes, nibbling here and there.

This animal intrigued me because they look so pre-historic.

They spend their days doing just as this one was, searching for and eating food. Being cold-blooded, they attempt to regulate their body temperature by moving in and out of the sunlight as necessary.

At night they retreat into deep burrows where it is possible for them to maintain their body temperature.
