Galapagos Giant Tortoise

Galapagos Giant Tortoise on the move

Watching the Galapagos Giant Tortoise walk was impressive. This massive animal moves with the ease of an athlete. Although they move slowly, they move with purpose and determination. This fellow was searching for food, and it didn’t take long before he munched on a short shrub. He seemed to pay no attention to all the people watching him. I was a little bothered by that fact. It is not good for wild creatures to become habituated to humans. Humans have a history of not respecting the co-existence of various species. As the dominant species, humans tend to control or eliminate other species. Even though the protections provided by the government of Ecuador are strong, it is always a worry when any wild animal does not have a sense of unease when humans are around.
